Law Clerks

Reno & Cavanaugh typically hires a maximum of 2-3 law clerks each summer, and occasionally hires a law clerk during the school year.  Law clerks work on practical transactional and research assignments, and learn generally about the housing and community development field.

Reno & Cavanaugh prefers law clerks to work full time for 10-12 weeks over the summer. Law clerks may be at any stage of their legal education or career.

Compensation is comparable within the market. While Reno & Cavanaugh doesn’t have a softball team or outings on cruise boats, the firm does have a collegial atmosphere, a unique and interesting practice, and the occasional visit from a professional massage therapist.

The 2009 Summer Law Clerk application period has now closed.  We will begin accepting applications for 2010 Summer Law Clerks in the fourth quarter of 2009.

I discovered Reno & Cavanaugh while working on housing issues in Chicago.  I spent my 2L summer at the firm, where I prepared client memos and helped draft transactional documents.  I had a wonderful summer and consider this experience one of the highlights of my law school career.

With all the focus on the big, general-purpose firms interviewing on-campus, I was fortunate to have a mentor of mine direct me to Reno & Cavanaugh. I spent my 2L summer at the firm and worked on a number of transactional and corporate counsel issues, including the preparation of plain language document summaries that were used directly by our clients. When I received a full-time offer following my summer here, I had no trouble deciding to accept.
