Rural Housing and Community Development

Reno & Cavanaugh has been dedicated to rural housing issues and policy. Some representative examples of the firm’s work are:

Loan Fund Representation
Housing Assistance Council (HAC)

Reno & Cavanaugh represents HAC's loan fund that provides below-market interest loans to local nonprofits, for-profits, and governmental agencies developing affordable housing in rural America.  HAC's loan fund has created and preserved over 58,000 units of affordable housing across the country.

Rural Community Housing Assistance Partnership (RCAP)

Reno & Cavanaugh assists this client with general counsel and regulatory issues.  RCAP helps rural communities to access safe drinking water, properly dispose of waste water, and protect ground water supplies.

Rural Housing Services, Inc. (RHS)

Over a 10 year period, Reno & Cavanaugh has helped RHS acquire ownership interests in 20 rural housing multifamily rental properties. The firm was involved in all aspects of the transactions, incorporating RHS, obtaining funding from the Ford Foundation, negotiating loan and equity documentation, and providing ongoing advice on operational matters. As these projects have completed low-income use requirements, Reno & Cavanaugh has assisted RHS in transferring them to locally-controlled partnerships for continued use as affordable housing rental projects.
